AMA AGBEZE

The next Ipswich Sporting Lunch Club will be held at Wherstead Park on Friday, 13 March 2020. The speaker will be netball sensation Ama Agbeze.

Ama, and her team, are responsible for one of the greatest sporting moments of recent times. Dubbed 'netball's Harry Kane', Ama led England to the greatest result in their history, beating overwhelming favourites Australia 52-51 to win a first Commonwealth gold medal.

England's spine-tingling, monumental victory of Australia was their first ever in a major tournament and was the defining moment for netball in the UK. With the match watched live by 2 million people, it propelled the sport into the spotlight. At the BBC Sports Personality of the Year that year the Roses were awarded the Greatest Sporting Moment award, voted for by the public and then, perhaps more significantly, Team of the Year, where Agbeze and her team beat Gareth Southgate's World Cup squad to the title.

At 6ft tall, Ama is a towering, powerful presence. She made her international debut in 2001 and has gone on to win 100 England caps to date.
